Something You Should Know About Me
Ok, here's my take on it, and it comes straight from a VERY reliable source who swears it wasn't just made up.
About 1979, with the advent of cheap recordable tape, a few tracks of tibetan throat chanting got slipped into the ether-sirius-pulsar broadcast, and was an instant hit all over this arm of the galaxy.
The yellow-skinned alien slavers and chemical harvesters who have been illegally blockading our planet for over two thousand years have not been happy about this, as usually no one cares what they do, given that they are some serious intergalactic badasses, just ask the grey skinned ones what became of THEIR civilization, and they were genetic cousins.
2012 is the year the intergalactic freedom fleet is scheduled to get here, though you can expect some delays, they are a coalition force. As it turns out, "Free earth" has become the galactic "Free Tibet" of the moment.
From what I hear, the mid level managers, talent agents, and recording lawyers already walk amongst us.
