Something You Should Know About Me

"The district court found that "the physical environment is hazardous to the residents, both physically and psychologically. -- The place smelled of urine and feces. The holes in the concrete were filled with filthy water and the children looked like prisoners. -- Reported incidents of abuse include the eye witnessed rape of a resident by a direct care worker, beating of residents with sets of keys and shackle belts, and an aide's unprovoked tossing of a small, physically handicapped child across a room.-- Drug practices at Pennhurst fall far short of minimal professional standards and include excessive use of psychotropic drugs, polypharmacy and the administration of drugs on a PRN basis.-- There is no way that Pennhurst could be made into an adequate facility. It is simply too far beyond repair and there are literally hundreds of reasons why this is the case, not the least which is the fact that Pennhurst as the whole structure, the whole way of operating out there is too far gone. --The State in fact had slated Pennhurst to be emptied under a five-year plan."
-Pennhurst State School & Hospital v. Halderman
I am drawn to these buildings, more so than I've ever been drawn to any other place. I can go to other abandonments, and I never get the same feelings. I've never felt the pain and sorrow, like I do here. People don't understand it, not even other urban explorers. They can't grasp the fact that Pennhurst is my first choice, that Pennhurst is my home. People call me crazy, and fuck it, i just may be.
