From that moment on, I was hooked by the sound of an electric guitar. I was the rhythm guitar of a band called ”Whiplash” back in 1993, with Daniel-lead guitar-, Leslie-keyboards-, Osiris-drums-, Melvin-bass guitar– and Me-rhythm guitar & Lead vocals- In just a few months, Osiris left the band , and “Beby” -Melvin’s brother– was the new drummer. As for Me, It was very hard to sing and play the guitar at the same time, so we start looking for a new front man and we found “Felix”. At that moment "Guns n' Roses" were at the top of the charts and the voice of "Felix" was perfect for their songs. And then we look for a keyboard player and we found Lesley, a wonderful musician. And this was it, the official lineup of “Whiplash” Felix(vocals), Daniel(lead guitar), Beby(drums),Lesley(keyboard), Melvin(bass guitar) & Me(guitar & backup vocals). We played in a talent show at Melvin and Beby's high school "Ponce High" but Felix and Daniel couldn't make it to the show, so Melvin step up the plate and did the singing and I did the lead guitar. We played "Silent Lucidity" from "Queensryche" That song was at the top of the charts at that moment, so everybody was very exited, the audience went crazy, but some dudes got the first place singing "La Bamba" fucking ass holes!!!! I beleive they were all from that high school. Our first live show, was in “Loca Ola”, AND IT WASN’T A GAY BAR!!!, but our biggest live show I believe it was on October 31, 1994, “Halloween Night” at Rene’s Pub in Ponce .That experience was better than sex. One of the most exiting moments of my life. Then we did some other gigs, but that same year 1994, I left the band, because I was getting bad grades in school. At that moment, it was the end of my contribution to the heavy metal scene. After my departure from "Whiplash" they formed another band called "Disipulos de Chagua" a ska-punk kind of thing. I heard they're getting together once again. GOOD FOR THEM!!!!!!!! Daniel is an MD now, Melvin and Beby are teachers, Lesley is in the armed forces, Last thing I heard from Felix was that he was in drugs, but I don't now if that rumor is true, and I haven't heard from Osiris in a long time. As for Me, I working in an accounting department for a private company. In 1995, I tried to start a new band called “SIX PACK”, We where five, but that didn’t matter, “we drank one”, that was my joke, if someone ask for the name. That lineup didn’t work at all. I don’t even remember their names, just the rhythm guitar –”Raymond” He quits because he couldn’t keep up with me, at least, that’s what he said, but, Oh yes!!! I was good back then. I was at my pick. Practicing all day, drinking all night, it was beautiful. Now, the name “SIX PACK” is used by other band, but that’s a different story, and I’m not going in to that. I wish them the best, they are my frat-brothers, and they have nothing to do with that. I’ve no heart feelings for that situation. A few years ago, I contact my old band members and told them that I wanted to jam once again, and they agreed. It was like the old times. I told Melvin that I wanted to form a “Megadeth” tribute band. He told me that I was crazy, but as a “Megafan”, I knew almost all the songs, and I gave him a CD, with all the songs that I knew at that moment. But then, he got married, I got married, and that was the end of it. I still play at home, I’m still in shape. Some day I’ll be back on stage and rock your brains out!!!!!!! Maybe I’ll play something in my show, let’s see. Thanks for your support!!! ***El Asco***
