So far I’ve talked about abortions for some of the wrong reasons. However, there

are circumstances where abortions can be for the right reasons. There are some

incidences where abortion may be necessary for the sake of the mother’s health or life.

If this was the case, it is understandable to have an abortion by most people. Some of the

health risks that are considered that may cause danger to the mother are bleeding, clotting

disorder, and breast cancer risks. These are just some of the risks that some ill mothers

would have to go through if they choose to give birth. Another incident where abortion

may be considered is if the women was sexually assaulted and became pregnant.

However, some mothers can easily use this as an excuse to get out of having to raise a

baby even if the baby was not the result of sexual assault.

Part 2 abortion

The older age groups of women are not looked down upon at as much as teenage

abortions. Society feels older women are more knowledgeable in the decisions they make,

unlike most teenagers. The reasons for abortion with older women could be too old to

give birth or too many children to support financially. However, I’ve come to discover

that there was another reason that women would choose abortion. Some women dislike

premature births and would rather abort that child than to have a mentally ill or sick baby.

This is not morally right. Who are people to choose whether to raise a healthy baby or

not. If the baby comes out ill in some way, it is the parent’s responsibility to raise that

child as it is. Unfortunately, many of these ill children that are born are neglected by

parents and usually sent to orphanages.

Abortions

In the world today abortions are being performed regularly by those who do not

wish to give birth. Abortion is one of the most common medical procedures performed in

the United States each year. However, it is debatable whether this procedure is morally

right or not. Should people be allowed to continue to “abort” these living beings inside

the mother? Circumstances such as age, rights, and morality are where I feel it should

determine if the women can or cannot have an abortion.

The most common women who decide to terminate their pregnancy are usually

young. Young women between the ages of 20 to 24 years old have the highest abortion

rate of all age groups. However, the age group that seems to face many problems are

those between 16 to 19 years old. The women at such a young age have a huge future

ahead of them. With the fear of disapproval from their parents, peers, and not being able

to financially support a child, these young women would naturally look to abortion as a

way out. With the laws put out today on abortion, parental consent is not necessary.

Therefore, many teens have a “choice” in going through abortion without their parents’

acknowledgement. However, many of these teens were never educated in the procedure

taken to remove this growing life inside of them. With surgical abortion the most

common method is suction aspiration, also known as vacuum abortion. This procedure

requires the use of a syringe that removes the fetus or embryo through suction. If these

teenagers knew about the procedure used in abortion, I feel many of these young women

would reconsider their decisions because it is morally wrong. It is known that at 22 weeks

a baby has life and can be prematurely born; unfortunately, it is legal by law to abort that

child during the time a baby has life.

Is the death penalty in the United States a fair and just way to end a criminal’s

life? Death sentences are seen as a good idea for the families who lost a loved one by the

hands of a murderer. Crime and murder rates may be lowered because of the death

penalty. The thought of being put to death for committing a crime can put psychological

scare tactics upon future criminals. However, I do not believe in the death penalty.

Putting someone to death in order to up hold peace is not my idea of justice.

Two wrongs do not make a right. This was a saying that I once heard from a

teacher. What makes the death penalty the right way to solve our crimes? No other major

democracy uses the death penalty. In “Death and Justice” by Edward I. Koch, he

mentioned that United States was an exception because the crime rates in the country was

substantially high. I argue that every country has their murderers, but those countries still

have other methods in dealing with their criminals besides the death penalty. What stands

out for me the most was the moral aspect of the death sentence. In the bible it states “thou

shall not murder”. The United States is a Christian driven country. It is only natural that

the Ten Commandments form the bases of the U.S. laws. The law for “thou shall not

murder” applies to all people. It makes no difference whether you are the criminal who

murdered a person or the guard who will put the criminal to death because the law applies

to all. People who hold power are no exceptions.

Other democratic based countries can up hold their peace without using the death

penalty. This tells me that the death penalty is not the only answer for the American

government. It is pitiful if the death penalty was used as a scare tactic in order to

decrease murder rates. In a country that is so biblically driven only God should have the

right to decide on the criminal’s fate.
