Going Live

Broadcast your live video with Stickam.  You can be live in less than a minute!   All you need is a computer (Any Intel Core 2 Duo 1Ghz or faster computer with least 1 GB of RAM), an internet connection (500 mbps minimum upload speed recommended), and a webcam or other connected video camera. You can choose if you want to let everyone watch you, or only your friends.  You can also choose whether or not to let viewers chat with you (video chat or text chat) in the Stickam chat room, or via our Twitter chat room.

  • TIP: You can also broadcast live from your iPhone!  Just download the free Stickam App from the ITunes Store.  You can also view any live stream from the IPhone, Android, or most any other smart phone.  Learn more.
  • TIP: By default, when you go live on Stickam you will be using our web-based Flash application.  If you would like to broadcast in higher quality near-HD you can do so with one of several RTMP desktop clients.  One of these is Flash Media Live Encoder, which is available as a free download from Adobe.  Learn more.

Watch and Interact With Live People or Live Shows

Follow friends, celebrities, shows, bands, and people of interest LIVE.  Join the interaction!  If you know a user’s profile name, you can go directly to their page and find their live video www.stickam.com/USERNAME.

Browse our “Who’s Live” pages to see who is live.  Sort by category (Shows, Radio, Music, Social) or by popularity and find live people or shows you want to watch or join.

Join a Group Chat Room or Play Stickam Shuffle and Poker Night

Another great ways to meet or interact with new people on Stickam is through one of our Group Chat Rooms.  These are chat rooms organized around topics, and you can interact via either text or video chatting.  View the current groups or start your own here.

Creating Your Profile Page

When you create a Stickam account, you automatically get a Stickam profile page.  Feel free to add pictures and a description here.  Your recorded live streams will also be archived here if you opt to record and save them.  Even if you do not add a description we highly recommend you upload a profile picture.  Uploading a profile picture significantly increases the likelihood of people visiting your page and checking out your live streams.

Facebook Connect

Stickam Glossary

Stickam:    verb, to live stream video or video chat.  exp: “Let’s Stickam tonight!”

Lurker:  noun, someone who watches a live stream but who does not enter the chat room.  If you do not want lurkers, you can set your player to require viewers to log in to your room in order to view.

Join a live:  verb,  to enter someone’s live chat room. 

Mod: noun, someone you have granted permission to to help moderate your room.  Mods have the power to kick or ban users from your live chat room.  verb, the act of making someone a mod.

Kick:  verb, to temporarily remove someone from your chat room, preventing them from interacting with you or your room.

Ban: verb, to permanently remove someone from your chat room, preventing them from interacting with you or your room.

Friend:  nouna friend on Stickam is someone you know or meet online and add to your friend list.  Everytime you log on you will see a list of all your friends, with your live friends sorted on top.

Follow:  verb,  to subscribe to Stickam users you want to receive an alert about every time they go live.
