There is little I can say that you won't learn from talking to me, but I can offer some preface. I am one of the most tolerant people on the planet: there is little that bugs me, I do not believe in 'good and evil,' and I believe that every action has an explanation.
I spent a significant portion of my life devoted to scholarship and all of the skill sets inherent thereto. I am well equipped to read esoteric arguments, to critique arguments, to cross exam, compare, and relate arguments. However, a few life experiences have shown me just how arbitrary such a skillset is, indeed, just how arbitrary most of life is.
I am, therefore, taking a different road from most scholars: the human road. I am interested in people first and foremost. I want to know what makes people tick, I want to know what moves them, what affects them, and how we all deal with this crazy thing called reality.
I am, thus, committed to learning, and urging others to learn as well. I want to provide a forum whereby anyone will feel welcome, and encouraged to posit his or her thoughts.
I want to try to figure out the world.
I want you to help.
I am Here for:
Mostly I am here to find other, similarly inquisitive people. I want to find people and provide an outlet for thoughts, critiques and problem that the rest of the world may not offer.
Hobbies:
Playing guitar, conversation, social critique, political critique, reading, scholarship, media studies
Favorite Movies:
Citizen Kane, Amelie, American Beauty, Little Miss Sunshine, The Shawshank Redemption, Cloverfield, Magnolia, Juno
Favorite TV Shows:
I'm sorry but I gave up on television years ago. It's a lost cause.
Favorite Music:
I generally don't have the patience to seek out new music, so I am often limited to the things I already know. I have a soft spot for classic rock: The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc. I also am a big fan of electronic rock: Mindless Self Indulgence, Prodigy, The Faint etc. Other than that I rely on the suggestions of others for new music. Please don't keep your suggestions to yourself :)
Favorite Books:
Fiction: Ender's Game, Brave New World, 1984, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Frankenstein, A Separate Peace, 2001: A Space Odyssey (the series), The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, Lord of the Flies, No Exit
Non-Fiction: Predictably Irrational, The Paradox of Choice, A People's History of the United States, The Way we Never Were, Bowling Alone, Amusing Ourselves to Death, Manufacturing Consent, Relational Responsibility, The Rhetoric of Reaction
