Welcome to the Midwest Radio Association - KØMSP

Operating Amateur Radio Repeaters Since 1977

53.550 MHz / 145.370 MHz / 444.975 Repeaters

The Midwest Radio Association, Inc. (MRA) is a group of Amateur Radio Operators whose focus is to support the installation, maintenance, use and ongoing technical improvements of some of the highest performance Amateur Radio Repeaters in the Twin Cities Area.

All MRA repeaters are open to appropriately licensed Amateur Radio Operators. To access the 145.370 MHz VHF repeater (EchoLink Node 4655), use PL 1B or 107.2 Hz with a -600 KHz offset. Our 444.975 MHz UHF repeater (EchoLink Node 9644) requires PL ZA or 94.8 Hz with a + 5 MHz offset. On six meters, 53.55 MHz use PL 1A or 114.8 Hz with a - 1 MHz offset.

Commercial Motorola equipment is used throughout our repeater systems with custom designed audio and voter circuitry. Emergency backup power for the central repeater site is provided while maintaining full transmitter output power. Also, most of the satellite receiver systems are provided with emergency backup power.

The MRA is dedicated to emergency communications for the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. The MRA encourages the use of its repeater systems for disaster related communications including, but not limited to scheduled drills, nets, coordination and public service events.

Amateur Radio Operators during and after disasters provide organized communications networks for governmental and emergency officials as well as for private citizens affected by a disaster. Amateur Radio becomes a strong and in some cases the only communications link when regular means of communications are damaged or failed. Radio Amateurs also handle health and welfare traffic for the general public. In situations where telephone service is down, messages will be sent via traffic networks which are then relayed to the affected areas and to its intended destination. In the event of severe weather such as tornadoes, hurricanes and flooding, Amateurs involved in Skywarn (operating under the National Weather Service) provide reports of weather conditions that are threatening in nature. The National Weather Service uses this information along with RADAR and other input for determining when and where warnings are issued. Amateur Radio Operators also provide communications for non-emergency events such as parades and various types of marathons.
