In a time when rock bands are trying to be flashier and bigger than life, Boston rock band Lannen Fall is bringing the scene back down to earth. "We're the kind of rock band you want to hang out with on Saturday nights," says Ryan Mercedes, guitarist and backup vocalist of Lannen Fall. What makes Lannen Fall unique is that they aren't hiding behind any sort of theatrics or depending on an image; they just want to have fun and make really good music in the process.
But Lannen Fall are no new kids on the block (so to speak), having burst onto the thriving Boston scene in 2005, and captivating audiences with their refreshingly honest straight-up rock that's influenced by everyone from Butch Walker to Blink-182. Lannen Fall (made up of lead vocalist/guitarist Jay Tagg, bassist/backup vocalist Dave "Horse" Horsman, lead guitarist/backup vocalist Ryan Mercedes and drummer Matt Wishnack) all have one goal in mind when they take over a stage or blast through your earphones; to make you rock out and sing along as loud as you can.
Fresh from the studio having recorded two new songs with John Naclerio(Brand New, My Chemical Romance) at Nada Studios, "Dead Air" and "Holly Hospital" would not sound out of place on your local alternative rock radio station. Putting a fresh twist on classic song topics such as love and loss, the songs are catchy and their building fanbase approves.
But don't just take our word for it that Lannen Fall are different from all the generic rock bands currently crowding the scene; Lannen Fall's fanbase includes many fellow musicians, including Armor For Sleep's Pj DeCicco who remarks that they are "a hook filled rock band that likes to take chances." Music site and scene kid bible Absolutepunk.net raves that Lannen Fall is "effortlessly catchy and powerful with no inhibitions". And just in case that wasn't quite enough to convince you, Rob Hitt (Ex-Midtown, I Surrender Records) commented that "It's very rare that I hear a band and on first listen I just know the band is going to have an impact in our music scene. It'll be fun to watch these guys rise to the top."
Even though they've certainly caught the attention of many of the powerful players in the scene, Lannen Fall isn't waiting around for some guys in suits to sign them—with a DIY attitude reminiscent of a time before MySpace (if you can even remember), Lannen Fall has no intention of slowing their output. Enjoying each and every minute of it, they plan to continue touring with their energetic and engaging live show for the energetic crowds of hot, sweaty kids who sing their lungs out at each and every show. For them, success is not measured in monetary value or chart topping singles, but in the impact that they have on their listeners. So what are you waiting for...don't you want to spend a Saturday night with Lannen Fall?
