at least a dozen riders were scored by the chip timing as having finished one lap less
than than they actually did (based on Janice and Barry plus the three judges hand scoring).

George is correct that the chip timing at Snelling was like having another official's perspective. We used them to cross-check and fill in. The big thing that made the results go well was an assembly-line approach. Tim Burgess radio'd the top 6 or 10 in to PJ as soon as possible, then Marc Franklin and Steven Mielich filled in the next riders from the camera. Marc had two cameras set up a few inches apart, and we had two computers. The downstream riders were filled in with a combination of hand scoring and chip results. Not every rider was picked up by either method, so it was good to have both there. -Paula
