Something You Should Know About Me
FORGOTTEN TOYS
I wondered into a convention of dragonflies today.
Their criss-cross flight plans seem so pessimistic.
What awkward creatures, and yet somehow graceful.
They seem to dance up and down as if on a string.
Their staccato rhythm and angular flight,
Makes them seem unnatural.
Like wind up toys that God forgot,
When he was off making other things.
I think its mating season.
A reason for all good dragonflies to come together.
Their robotic dance has a purpose.
The laws of attraction for four winged flying insects.
What to us seems like a mess,
To them is romance.
They remind me of WWI biplanes,
In a pitched dogfight over the front.
How they swoop and via for strategic position.
Their aerial dance of love,
Over this forgotten path ,
By the water's edge.
Can insects feel emotion.
Or is it all just instinct.
How can a coincidence be so beautiful.
If we are all just toys left behind,
Then who pulls the strings.
These dragonflies must know what they are doing this spring.
Their awkward courtships have stolen my heart.
I feel a part of their flock.
Maybe I should try and be more awkward.
I know I have fallen from grace,
In this ritual of romance.
