They met through music, both having a huge interest and passion in the arts. Through this love of music, they were able to get to know each other. From the moment they first saw one another, there was a connection. Maria has often said, " It was like a voice inside told me I needed to know this person [Tim]." In the summer of 2000, Maria and Tim marched drum corps. While on tour they both began to realize that the friendship they had was meant to be; that they needed to maintain that friendship and be in each other's lives in some way for the rest of their lives. After their 2000 summer tour had ended, Maria was a sophmore in high school, and Tim had just graduated. Tim was offered a job in Bakersfield as a drum instructor. One month after moving to Bakersfield, Tim recieved a phone call from Maria's sister. Maria had been in a car accident. She had internal bleeding and a broken back. Tim dropped everything he was doing, drove down to San Diego with no brakes, and ended up next to Maria's hospital bed. Maria could not walk for several days. The doctors were afraid her broken back would effect her movement. Tim visited Maria everyday, all day, until she could walk. When the doctors finally gave her permission to get out of bed, Tim gently acted as a support while she slowly moved her way through the halls of the hospital. When the day came for Maria to go home, Tim headed back o Bakersfield. Exactly one week after Maria's accident, September 11th happened. Tim and Maria both felt the effects of September 11th on their own families. Tim's mom is a flight attendant, and was laid off for two years. Maria's dad and sister were both in the military. Her dad had tours in the middle east a couple times, and her sister was in Korea for three years. During this time, Maria started playing with the San Diego Youth Symphony. She was a violinist and violist for three years, playing for private charity events, as well as playing at Copley Symphony Hall in Downtown, San Diego. Tim was also keeping himself busying during this time, playing anything from corprate gigs to college parties, all of which displayed his talent in a very wide variety of musical styles. Tim was also working on getting more ideas and connections for his upcoming production company. Since 1999 Tim was been working on a production company called Staump Productions. From this he has branched off into a website, a record label, a recording studio, and a music school. After Maria graduated high school, she went on to Grossmont College. There she became a music major. She will be recieveing her degree in music this semester, 2007. She began college working for a retail company. With Tim's help, she was able to quit her retail job and begin working for herself as a music teacher. Maria currently has over forty students taking lessons from her each week. While in school, Maria's love grew for composition. She began writing an album which she hoped would convey a unique appreciation and passion for life. The album is called, "Mi Vida Bonita." Tim has acted as her manager, producer, engineer, and critic through the entire recording process. They are thrilled to be releasing the album on February 16th, 2008. Through all the trials and blessings they have received over the years, they continued to look to each other for love and support. On November 3rd, 2007, Tim and Maria were married. They will continue to pursue their careers in music together. The love that has brought them to the success they share now will surely ensure the growth of their success in the future. Maria has a degree in music, is an ASCAP member, and is a member of the National Association for Music Education. She released her first album "Mi Vida Bonita," earlier this year, and has been touring throughout California, performing at venues such as, the "Whisky A GO GO," the "San Diego County Fair", and other various venues in downtown San Diego and East County. Maria and her husband Tim have also put together a band known as "The Maria Staump Band". The band consists of Maria Staump on vocals and rhythm guitar, her husband Tim Staump on drums, Dan Scott on bass, and Joel Tuttle on lead guitar. All the music performed by the band was written by Maria. The music that is created by the Maria Staump Band is a blend of different styles: rock, blues, Latin, punk, country, hip hop, folk, and alternative. In addition to composing and performing, Maria also teaches full time. She currently has over forty students each week that range in age from three to sixty years old. She primarily teaches piano and guitar, however, she does offer bass, trumpet, and violin lessons as well. She is proudly self employed as an independent musician. Drums/ Percussion- Drummer Tim Staump A percussionist since age ten, Tim has studied from musicians like James Morton, Kirk Hoffmen, Tyler Dempsey, Mark Schulman, and Zoro the drummer.
