About Me
I received a letter today, and I'd like to share.
September 9, 2008
Dear David,
At Soldiers Angels the motto is "Let no soldier go unloved". That motto is something that all of us who participate in Soldiers Angels try out best to live up to. However we believe it is important for you to know that here in northern Nevada, at least, that sort of support is the norm rather than the exception. We see signs of support for our armed forces in many forms, for instance, every Friday afternoon we join a group of people who walk two miles through downtown Carson City to show support for our troops. Started by the family of a fallen soldier the walk has grown considerably. Wearing red shirts and carrying American flags the group elicits much reaction from passing cars. Rarely are the reactions other than positive, most drivers and passengers waving and giving thumbs up.
Here in Carson City, volunteers have constructed a 65' X 120' American Flag overlooking the city. After the original flag, constructed right after 9-11, was blown away in a windstorm the citizens of Carson City collected over $50,000 to build a flag that would stand up to the 100 mph winds that blow down that hill during storms. Volunteers hauled over 85tons of material, including 3,000 of bags of concrete to the top of the hill by pickup and pack mule and then back down to the construction site halfway down the hill where the concrete was mixed with waster brought in by Forest Service tank truck. Constructed of specially treated aluminum panels the flag is a beautiful sight visible all over the city.
In the paper we read about local schools gathering items to package and send to deployed soldiers, and of the VFW buying phone cards to send to our armed forces. All over America people donate their air miles so that the families of the wounded can afford to visit their loved one. Blankets and handmade quilts are sent to hospitals and to individual patients. The stories of the support and love of the American public for it's Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Coast Guardsman and Marines go on and on.
We tell you all this so that you know in your heart that the USA is solidly behind its fighting men and women. We can not recall this kind of groundswell effort taking place in so many ways by so many people. We are constantly astonished at the amount of support, and the number of people who participate. Never doubt that America supports you. Never doubt that America loves you. Never doubt that when this war is won you will return to all of us who adore you. Please stay safe and come home soon.
Love and Regards,
Pat and Don Lindsay
